TRANSFORMATIONS Dianna Ramirez

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for 2nd grade  Apply transformations and use symmetry and analyze mathematical situations • Predict and describe the results of sliding (translations), flipping (reflections) and turning (rotations) two-dimensional shapes.

Transformations A Transformation is Changing a shape using: • Turn • Flip • Slide, or • Resize

Examples of Transformations

Translation Translation" simply means Moving, without rotating, resizing or anything else, just moving. Every point of the shape must move: the same distance in the same direction.

Example of a Translation

Interactive translated figure link http://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is- translation-in-math-definition-examples- terms.html

Reflections Every point is the same distance from the central line ! An image or shape as it would be seen in a mirror. Every point is the same distance from the central line ! ... and ... The reflection has the same size as the original image The central line is called the Mirror Line

Examples of Reflections

Interactive reflected figure link http://www.virtualnerd.com/middle- math/integers-coordinate- plane/transformations/reflection-definition

Rotation "Rotation" means turning around a center: The distance from the center to any point on the shape stays the same. Every point makes a circle around the center:
