Chp. 27 – Transportation: Canada’s Circulatory System

Every day, millions of people travel millions of kilometres. Thousands of tonnes of cargo must also be moved. Difficulties of travel in Canada?? (List 3)

Movement of People Things to consider: distance, costs, duration, and alternatives available. Choices include road, rail, air, or water.

Road Travel Most important means of moving people in Canada. Automobiles vs. Busses (What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?)

Rail Travel Travel by train was most common in Canada until World War II. This changed after WWII: more people owned cars, highways were improved, and air travel became more common.

Air Travel More important in Canada than in most countries due to great distances. Deregulation in the 1990’s greatly changed air travel by increasing competition. Advantages and Disadvantages? (List)

Travel by Ship Not very common in Canada. Vital to Newfoundland and Vancouver Island
