Reading Log Animal FarM

1) Come get your Animal Farm books! Get Your Books! 1) Come get your Animal Farm books! 2) Remember to get YOUR book, the same one you had last time (the list you signed last time is taped to my desk) – the numbers are on the top facing outwards. 3) Also remember: This book is your exit ticket. You cannot leave without handing me your book personally.

Questions? Take out a sheet of paper Write your heading Title it: “Reading Log” We’re going to read chapter 5-6 Take a quick seven minute break after each chapter to write a reflection Then discuss Questions?

Ch. Five: Turn to pg. 41 in your book Write the number and page of the chapter, and take notes: -characters? -details? -images? -metaphors?

SEVEN MINUTE REFLECTION BREAK! Hmmmmm... What do I think ? SEVEN MINUTE REFLECTION BREAK! Take seven minutes to write a reflection on the chapter -- should write a paragraph over the importance of the events. What are the differences between Snowball and Napoleon? Which pig do you prefer?  How does Snowball win over the majority? What about Napoleon? What is Napoleon’s position on the windmill? What is your reaction to the sudden appearance of the dogs? Where did they come from, and what does this mean? What is Squealer’s role in the story? RUSSIAN REVOLUTION: What do you think the dogs represent in Russia? What force was used to enforce Lenin/Stalin’s will? What do you think Snowball’s expulsion represents?

THREE MINUTE REFLECTION BREAK! Hmmmmm... What do I think ? THREE MINUTE REFLECTION BREAK! How does Napoleon depart from Old Major’s ideas on Animalism and the seven commandments? How do Napoleon and Squealer justify these changes? What is your reaction to this? What happens to the Windmill – what is the pigs’ reaction? Do you believe Squealer? Do you think these methods are ever used in any real governments? How so? RUSSIAN REVOLUTION: What connection do you think Snowball and Napoleon have with new leaders of Russia (Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin)? Any other connections you see?

Ok, We’ll stop there! Now look at the Active Reading WS and answer the questions Also look at your comparison chart – write any connections you observe – use pencil in case you change your mind! When the bell rings, please hand me your books (personally) on your way out! These are your exit ticket!
