How Artists Make Art Craft Content Art Context

Craft in Art Craft: The tools, techniques and skills that an artist uses to create art.

Context in Art Context: When a work of art was made, where, how and for what purpose.

Content in Art Content: The emotional or intellectual message of the artwork.

Final Product Choose a piece contemporary artwork Write a 2 page report that explains the craft, content and context of the artwork in terms of: How the art was made, and a description of the art (using the elements and principles of art) Essential meaning of the art (why the art was made) Significance of the art in terms of culture and art history Aesthetic value of a work of art

Choosing Your Art Your piece must be: Contemporary (the artist must have been alive at some point during your life) Well known (can be googled) The artist must have spoken about his art (this will help you to answer why the art was made)
