Experimental Design Statistics

Confounding Variable An experimenter cannot tell the difference between the effects of different factors on a variable.

Placebo Effect A subject reacts favorably to a placebo

Blinding The subject does not know whether he or she is receiving a treatment or a placebo.

Double-Blind Experiment Neither the experimenter or the subject knows who has the treatment or the placebo

Randomization A process of randomly assignment subjects to different treatment groups.

Randomized Block Design First a group is divided into groups then randomly assigned to treatment groups Control 30-39 years old Treatment Control All subjects 40-49 years old Treatment 50-59 years old Control Treatment

Replication The repetition of an experiment using a large group of subjects
