Algebra: Variables & Expressions Ch. 6-1 B

Expressions are just problems WITHOUT an equal sign, you can still solve them though! Algebra uses variables, which are symbols (mainly letters) used in place of numbers Since x is often used as a variable and looks like a multiply sign there are now 4 different ways to show multiplication n + 2 2 ∙ 3 5t xy 3(5)

If you know the variable, just plug it in! m = 4 and z = 9 3 + m 3 + 7 = 10 z – m 9 – 4 = 5 z + 5 9 + 5 = 14 4m – 2 4 x 4 – 2 1 16 – 2 = 14

Make sure to follow your P E MD AS a = 4 b = 15 c = 9 c2 + a 92 + 4 81 + 4 = 85 4b ÷ 5 4 x 15 ÷ 5 60 ÷ 5 = 12 2ac 2 x 4 x 9 8 x 9 = 72
