Presentation transcript:

Back to School Night First Grade

Homework – We will start the year with math home work and penmanship home work. Spelling and Backpack reading will be gradually added as the year progresses. Penmanship- Please complete penmanship homework each evening. You may need to read your child some of the directions. Please check to make sure they are forming the letters correctly. Incorrect practice will create habits that are extremely difficult to break. Spelling- I will send more information with the first spelling list on Week 3. Backpack Reading- I will send more information Week 5.

Parent Volunteers We need volunteers!! Make a note of any special talents that you would like to share with the students. Please write it on the parent volunteer list. For example, art, foreign languages, working with individual students in reading and or math, clerical/organizational help or being in charge of a small reading or writing groups. We will also need a parent to help organize the monthly birthday celebration.

- Classroom Management The Heart - I love to catch students making great choices. When this happens their name is written in a large heart on the white board and they will have a chance to be a special helper or receive a small reward at the end of the day. Nonverbal Cues – Whenever possible we use nonverbal cues to communicate needs such as bathroom breaks, all quiet, or please stop. *When the above mentioned management techniques do not change behavior a call or email home will occur and or removal of privileges. Individual behavior plans will also be implemented.

Birthdays- Monthly Celebration You may bring a birthday treat on the last Friday of the month. We will celebrate all of the students having a birthday that month together so parents will need to coordinate treats and drinks with the Birthday Party Coordinator. Each child will bring an “All About Me!” poster created at home to share at the party. The Birthday parent will be in touch about specifics. August and Sept. birthdays will be celebrated together at the end of September.

Please send Lunch unless they are having hot lunch and Snacks Please send easy healthy snacks- They get a morning snack opportunity. They will be reminded but it is their job to get it out of their backpack. Please send something they can eat during recess. (Granola bars, cheese sticks, crackers, apples, or nuts) These are just suggestions.

Please email me if you have any questions about your child’s education, emotional well being or just general questions. I will be glad to phone conference or schedule a meeting with you anytime.
