Legalism People are basically evil. Force and power are necessary! Be obedient to elders and government! (Or else face strict punishments.)

Legalism Harsh laws and strict punishments Learn from your mistakes! Burned books during Qin dynasty that spoke out against government. Be loyal to government, not your family.

Legalism Basically, the legalists were practical political thinkers who believed that the government should use laws to end civil disorder and restore harmony. Government is strict. Government Subjects

Daoism Live in harmony with nature. Believes in the natural order Live in harmony with nature. Let nature take its natural course. Be quiet in mind, body, spirit and one will discover the truth and eternal happiness. The best government is one that governs the least (fewest restrictions on the people).

Opposite forces are complimentary Yin and Yang Opposite forces are complimentary

Don’t worry about the afterlife, focus on life right now.
