Presentation transcript:

Dear year 7/8s My name is Akra my home is the Amazon Rainforest. I am part of the Awa tribe. In the Amazon we have cleared an area of trees to build our homes and plant our crops. My life is much different to yours. Each day I get up at 5.00 am as the sun rises and go to bed as the sun sets. In my village we grow crops including, Beans, Corn and Bananas. For breakfast I collect the crops for my family to eat. I do not go to school, I help my family. Each day we hunt for food. We hunt for turtles and fish in the river catching them with arrows. We cook the food over a fire while it is fresh. I usually have fish for my lunch The rainforest is valuable to tribes as it has many resources we can use to build our homes, light our fires and provide medicines when we are sick. We live in Harmony with the rainforest and only use the resources we need We don’t have electricity to watch T.V or play computer games. For entertainment members of the tribe gather to dance and sometimes sing.

We live in Harmony with the rainforest and only use the resources we need

Panara Tribe We are nomadic farmers. Nomadic means we move from place to place grazing our cattle. We have a large herd of Cattle. We sell the beef to large companies such as McDonalds We have to cut down lots of trees to make room in the Amazon for all of our Cattle When the Cattle have eaten all of the plants and the nutrients have been washed from the soil we move to a new place

Kayapo Tribe We put disks in our bottom lip and ears to show our importance We grow some crops, but we rely on hunting for food There are over 650 plants in the Amazon which we use to create medicine when we are sick We wear colourful head dresses to identify tribe members

Korubo Tribe We build our settlements close to rivers as fish are our main source of food To stop our houses flooding we build them on stilts We use spears to hunt. You have to be quick otherwise the fish will swim away We make our body ornaments from birds feathers and tree bark Our body paintings represent the animals of the Rainforest

Tupi Tribe We are Rubber Tappers. We use a knife to cut a line in the bark of the trees, this is how we collect the rubber We sell this to companies and it is used around the world Our Jewellery is made from animal bones and teeth We live in harmony with the Rainforest and only use what we need We make our face and body paints from plants
