Presentation transcript:

Grab binders & handouts & begin the Do Now What are examples of main greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming? What specific property of greenhouse gases leads to increasing global temperatures? Which effects global warming the most – the amount of a greenhouse gas in the atmosphere OR the ability of a greenhouse gas to trap heat?

Final Product: Model UN Learning Target: I can describe physical processes that result in the emission of green house gases I can argue for/defend current emission plans set in place to reduce greenhouse gas emissions Reading Purpose: To identify WHY we should care To outline our representative country arguments

Model UN: Background Analysis Reading Purpose: What is your country doing to fight global warming? Clarify HOW this is fighting GW… What specific evidence do you have to support your country’s actions? How can what you read support your argument?

Check Point 1: Outlining Group Analysis Roles: 15 min - Each person analyzes at least one article and completes the Frayer Model for that article Group Share: Model UN groups share Frayer models with group members Individual Work Time: 20 min Utilize outline organizer to set up framework for initial draft….main topics that will be discussed

Model UN: Structuring Your Argument Question to consider… What is your country doing to fight global warming? What specific evidence do you have to support your country’s actions? How can what you read support your argument?

Check Point 2: Intro Outline Individual Work Time: 15 min Using your 3 main supporting topics, structure your thesis statement and begin generating compelling ideas to hook in the audience Resources: - Frayer model on NY Times article Question to consider… Why should we care?

Myth Debrief: Ways to stop producing carbon dioxide: Stop breathing - When you exhale you release carbon dioxide Don't live in a house/apartment/condo or any building that uses gas or electricity - Homes produce 2-3 times as much carbon as cars. Don't wear shoes or any sort of clothing produced in a factory. Grow a cotton field and make your own clothes by hand. Quit school - Those school buildings produce more carbon in a year then you do in 20 years. Turn off this monitor and computer - You hypocrite. Don't use toilets, urinate or poo in your back yard.- The water to your house is cleaned and sent to your house using pumps that use electricity. Die - Dying younger means you will do all of the above less. Living one year less means you will save the earth 8.4 tons of carbon dioxide every year you're not here
