Review time Evolution by Natural Selection 1. What is Darwin’s theory of evolution?? Evolution by Natural Selection

Review time Survival of the fittest 1. What does Natural Selection mean? Survival of the fittest

Review time Increase; decrease 2. Natural selection means: Good traits _________ in a population and bad traits _________ in a population. Increase; decrease

Review time Ability to reproduce and pass on good traits 2. What does survival of the fittest mean? Ability to reproduce and pass on good traits

Review time 3. Define adaptation. A trait that is heritable and can increase an organisms ability to survive.

Review time 3. Give a non-example of an adaptation. A trait that is taught or learned like learning to play basketball or learning to catch fish.

Review time 4. Describe the function of the adaptation- hibernation. Hibernation helps organisms survive changes in seasons-like a bear

Review time Change in response to a changing environment. 4. Why do adaptations change over time? Change in response to a changing environment.

Review time 5. Do all organisms evolve in the same way? Explain your response. No, organisms will evolve in different ways based on what they need to survive and reproduce.

Review time 5. Describe Darwin’s principle of variation. There are differences in traits and some variations are beneficial and others not.

Quiz #9 Directions: Silently and independently complete quiz #9. Turn your quiz into the basket when you are finished. Answer every question and try your best! Time: 15 minutes Noise: 0 (SILENT)

3/26 Objective Natural selection leads to the adaptation of species over time, but the process does not involve effort, trying, or wanting. Natural selection naturally results from genetic variation in a population and the fact that some of those variants may be able to leave more offspring in the next generation than other variants.

Natural Selection Lab On page 38: You will be acting as a bird with a beak Fork Spoon Knife Straw You will attempt to catch food in each environment

Natural Selection Lab On page 38: you need to create a chart for every environment. Three questions after every environment

Natural Selection Lab

Directions Every member of your group will have a beak. At the same time, all of you will compete with only your beak to pick up the specific food source. Place your acquired food on your napkin. After the environment is complete, then you may eat your food.

At your desk, work on your post-lab questions when you finish the lab. Natural Selection Lab Directions: On page 38 create your lab report. In a group of 4, read the directions and complete the lab on natural selection. All labs are test grades and must be completed by Monday. Time: 20 minutes Noise: 3 (with your group) At your desk, work on your post-lab questions when you finish the lab.
