Unit 1 What is Statistics Data Types Data Collection Experimental Design Sampling Methods TODAY - Bias T – 9/22 - Ethics in Statistics / REVIEW Th – 9/24 - Unit 1 Test

Please get out a piece of loose leaf paper for today’s Notes Name 9/18/2015 Stats – 1 Bias

Survey Bias – the tendency of a sample statistic to over or under estimate a population parameter Biased Sample - a sample that is not representative of the population

Sampling error is the error that always results from using a sample to estimate information regarding a population. - Larger sample sizes decreases the bias created from sampling error

Response Bias – the tendency of subjects to provide inaccurate data Causes: Environment Who asks the questions How the questions are asked Social desirability

Selection Bias – the failure to select sample subjects that accurately represent the greater population Causes: Under-Coverage Nonresponse bias Voluntary response bias

Strategy Helps prevent this type of bias Random Sampling Response Bias Selection Bias Confidential surveys Increased sample size Reduces sampling error

Complete the rest of Stats.9.Homework COMPLETELY ANSWER EACH QUESTION ON A PIECE OF LOOSELEAF PAPER OR TYPED. USE COMPLETE SENTENCES AND EXPLAIN YOUR WORK. IF YOU WORK WITH A PARTNER, ACKNOWLEDGE THAT PARTNER. EVERY STUDENT NEEDS TO TURN IN THEIR OWN WORK, IN THEIR OWN WORDS.
