“Westward Expansion” Vocabulary Preview

“Expansion” It means: growing bigger It has a verb form: “to expand” Ex. “Westward Expansion” is when the US took over more land in the west. The balloon is expanding

American settlers moving west It means: Someone who moves to a new area, usually where there are not many people. It can be a verb: “To settle” (has many other meanings too) Ex. Many white settlers moved onto Native American land American settlers moving west

American Indian inhabitants It means: Someone who lives in a certain place Can be a verb: “to inhabit” Ex. The Seminoles were the original inhabitants of Florida before white settlers moved in. American Indian inhabitants
