Objective & Homework Objective: Given texts and videos, students will be able to analyze and discuss possible different perspectives in order to create their own short story. Homework: Finish “Choosing a Perspective Short story”

Agenda Intro & Warm up (15 minutes) Different Perspectives Videos (25-30 minutes) Different Perspectives Text (25-30 minutes) Different Perspectives Short story (25-30 minutes)

Wizard of Oz VS Wicked

Wizard of Oz VS Wicked When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help. The musical is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz; its plot begins before and continues after Dorothy's arrival in Oz from Kansas. Wicked tells the story of two unlikely friends,Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda, who struggle through opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love- interest, reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace.

Video Questions: Turn & Talk Spend a few minutes discussing these points in reference to the video with the person next to you while jotting down your ideas on a black piece of paper: What are the main similarities and differences between these perspectives? List any story you know that changes perspectives or has an “evil” main character. Why are these types of stories gaining popularity?

Different Perspectives Text Compare the two perspectives of the bicycle story. On a separate sheet of paper create a Venn Diagram and list 3-5 items to go into each section.

Choosing a perspective Think of any story you know from a book, movie, or television show. Choose another character from that story and tell a part of it from their perspective. This short story has to be 1 page long (single sided).
