Mitosis Review Jeopardy

Cell Cycle Mitosis Name that Phase $100 $200 $300 $400 $500

Cell Cycle $100 The S phase of Interphase stands for synthesis. What is being synthesized?

Cell Cycle $200 If the original cell has 20 chromosomes how many chromosomes will each daughter cell have?

Cell Cycle $300 The typical growth period of a cell occurs during which stage of the cell cycle?

Cell Cycle $400 Name the phase of the cell cycle in which long strands of DNA and protein direct cell growth and development

DNA replication occurs during which phase of the cell cycle?

List in order the stages of mitosis

Mitosis $200 In which phase of mitosis does a new nuclear membrane form around each new cluster of chromosomes?

Mitosis $300 In which phase of mitosis does each chromatid move to separate poles of the cell?

Mitosis $400 What do centromeres do?

Telophase

What is Anaphase

Hold the Sister Chromatids together What is Hold the Sister Chromatids together

A) Should a cell have : - a high surface area-to-volume ratio OR - a low surface area-to-volume ratio? B) Why?

A high surface area-to-volume ratio is better for a cell. This means the cell is smaller. Materials can be moved in and out of a cell faster if the cell is small. If the cell gets too large, the volume increases faster than the surface area. If the volume is too large, the cell will not work properly.

Telophase

Metaphase

Anaphase

Cytokinesis *technically this is separate from mitosis
