Welcome To Global Studies

What is Global Studies? Three Sections History Global Issues of the 21st Century Potential Solutions

History For each issue we discuss we will look at the background which laid the foundation for our modern condition. Understanding the Historical factors and contexts which have driven the decision making process are key elements to any global discussion.

21st Century Global Issues 5 Key Categories Global Economy Human Development Environment and Natural Resources Peace and Security Global Governance

Two men's thoughts on One Global Issues Al Gore http://www.ted.com/talks/al_gore_warns_on_ latest_climate_trends.html Bjorn Lomborg http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/bjorn_lomb org_sets_global_priorities.html

Define: Global Issues Some common features: ■ Each issue affects a large number of people on different sides of national boundaries. ■ Each issue is one of significant concern, directly or indirectly, to all or most of the countries of the world, often as evidenced by a major U.N. declaration or the holding of a global conference on the issue.

Definition: Continued ■ Each issue has implications that require a global regulatory approach; no one government has the power or the authority to impose a solution, and market forces alone will not solve the problem.

How do we come up with a Research Question? Research questions are umbrella questions that address your topic and would use question words from ‘Suggested Words for Developing Good Questions’ processing level or applying level. Research questions include KEY WORDS or KEY PHRASES that you can use to help you research your topic in a database or search engine. Research questions are questions you DO NOT know the answer to. You are doing the research to gain new knowledge.

Research Question Cont'd: Research questions should be easily and fully researchable. Research questions should not be too narrow, too broad, or too challenging. Research questions should deal with a topic or issue that sparks your own thoughts and opinions.
