The Church is diverse

21 Timothy, my co-worker, sends his greetings to you, as do Lucius, Jason and Sosipater, my fellow Jews. 22 I, Tertius, who wrote down this letter, greet you in the Lord. 23 Gaius, whose hospitality I and the whole church here enjoy, sends you his greetings. Erastus, who is the city’s director of public works, and our brother Quartus send you their greetings. 25 Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message… (cont’d) --Romans 16.20-27 NIV

… I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith— 27 to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. --Romans 16.20-27 NIV

The church is ethnically diverse

10 God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord. --Ephesians 3.10-11 NLT

colorful backgrounds. No other human community resembles it. “The church as a multi-racial, multi-cultural community is like a beautiful tapestry. It’s members come from a wide range of colorful backgrounds. No other human community resembles it. Its diversity and harmony are unique. It is God’s new society. And the many-colored fellowship of the church is a reflection of the many-colored wisdom of God.” --John Stott--

The church is not more important than the people who are the church

it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. “What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.” 49 Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, “You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.” --John 11.46-50 NIV

4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. --Romans 12.4-5 NLT

Unity in Christ Unity in the Lord (Romans 16:3, 7, 9, 10) Unity in the Lord (Romans 16:8, 11, 12, 13)

Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ… --Romans 16.25 ESV
