Ending a Presentation recommendations summary conclusion questions What are some things that the end of a presentation should contain? recommendations summary conclusion questions discussion thanks

Questions vs. Discussion

Questions vs. Discussion What is the difference between asking the audience if they have questions or opening up to a discussion? Questions – used for getting more information or for clarifying a point. assumes that the speaker has some specialist knowledge and the audience has only come to listen.

Questions vs. Discussion What is the difference between asking the audience if they have questions or opening up to a discussion? Discussion – suggests that the audience and speaker are more equal (even if they are not). commonly used when a decision has yet to be made, if plans are being developed, or if the speaker is talking about theoretical ideas.

Questions vs. Discussion A sales representative’s presentation of a new product. A CEO’s statement on corporate policy. A politician’s speech on transportation policy. A team leader’s talk to colleagues on the next phase of a project. A manager’s proposal to a group of senior executives on improving productivity.

Summary vs. Conclusion

Summary vs. Conclusion What is the difference between a summary and a conclusion? Summary – restates what has already been said in the presentation. Conclusion – grows out of the presentation. It contains recommendations, next steps, lessons learned, etc. It may include a summary.

Summary vs. Conclusion LISTEN to the end of Ben Seznec’s talk. Is this a summary or a conclusion, or is it both? Explain. Fill in the missing words on page 88. a) “I’d like to end with a short restatement of the main point.” b) “So, what are the lessons that we can learn from this? I think most importantly, we have to build up…”

Summary Language a summary of the main points. I’d like to end by emphasizing the main point(s). So basically… I’d like to end with… a summary of the main points.

Summary How would you summarize your presentation if this was your summary slide?

Summary

Conclusion Language There are two conclusions / recommendations. What we need is… I think we have to… I think we have seen that we should… I’d like to end with… some observations based on what I’ve said.

Conclusion How would you conclude your presentation if this was your conclusion slide?
