Sentence Variety

Simple sentence One independent clause I love English!

Compound Sentences Two independent clauses joined with a comma and conjunction I love to write, but I also love to read!

Complex sentence An independent clause and a dependent clause or phrase After running the race, Cassandra was exhausted. Before the show began, I got to my seat quickly and quietly.

Compound/complex Two independent clauses and a dependent clause or phrase Although I could not fully see over the big head in front of me, the dolphin exhibit at the zoo was amazing, and I would absolutely go again.

Begin with an adverb Adverbs typically end in –ly and describe a verb, adjective or other adverb Quickly, I dashed across the field and scored a goal.

Begin with a prepositional Phrase A group of words, beginning with a preposition, which show direction, place, or time. During the middle of class, Kerry burped loudly.

Use an appositive A group of words set beside another noun/pronoun to explain it Dr. Galipeau, my English teacher, is nuts! My social studies class, which I have in the middle of the day, is so much fun.
