Any Questions?

Time to GET STARTED…. GET READY…

Why is English one of the hardest languages to learn?

Let me ask you a couple of questions…….. WHY ARE WORDS IMPORTANT? WHY IS WORD CHOICE IMPORTANT?

Would you rather…. Trudge through the snow Stroll through the snow WHY?????

You may have noticed… These verbs (trudge and stroll) have similar meanings, but each has a different CONNOTATIVE MEANING.

Connotative Meaning (Connotation) Connotative meaning – the feeling suggested by a word or phrase. TRUDGE connotes a struggle, but STROLL suggests a relaxing walk.

It is all about selecting the right word to convey how you are feeling at the moment… More Examples: Smell/Fragrance Proud/Vain Snoop/Investigate Giggle/Howl Dislike/Disgust Awful/Horrendous

3 minutes to work with your group and create two sentences using each word.

ROTATION TIME!!!!!

Exit Slip: What is connotation and why is it important?
