The Communication Process MESSAGE words, body language and symbols that convey an idea SENDER transmits message FEEDBACK words, body language and symbols that respond to the sender’s message RECEIVER intercepts and interprets message; transmits feedback

Problems with the process Have you ever been involved in miscommunication? How did it happen? What was the result? A COMMUNICATION BARRIER is any obstacle that gets in the way of effective communication.

How do we eliminate communication barriers?

To the sender THINK before you speak. Take your time deciding what exactly you want to say and how best to say it! ARTICULATE your words. Slow down and pronounce each word correctly for maximum clarity. WATCH the receiver of your words to make sure you are getting the correct response.

To the receiver ASK questions if unsure of message or simply to clarify message. LEARN to have an open-mind and sympathize with others.
