What is a dinosaur? What is a dinosaur? Dinosaurs were reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic era. The word dinosaur in Greek means “terrible lizard”. “Dino” means terrible” and “saur” means lizard. Scientists know that dinosaurs existed because their fossils and bones have been found around the world.

What is a reptile? A reptile is a vertebrate animal of a class that includes snakes, lizards, crocodiles, turtles, and tortoises. They are distinguished by having a dry scaly skin and typically laying soft- shelled eggs on land. (Definition from bing.com)

Dinosaurs were classified by 2 main categories. One of the most important differences between dinosaurs are their hip joints. Dinosaurs with pelvic hips like lizards are called Saurischia. Ornithischia are dinosaurs with hip bones more like birds.

Dinosaur Facts Dinosaurs came in many colors and sizes. Dinosaurs had feathers and/or scales. The closest living relatives to dinosaurs are birds.

Should we explore what some of the different dinosaurs looked like? https://www.dkfindout.com/us/dinosaurs-and-prehistoric-life/dinosaurs/
