Substance Use and Abuse Drug Research Slide Show PPL101 Include the following on the title slide of your slide show: Group Members’ Names Teacher’s Name Course Code Your Drug Topic with a Catchy Title! Due Date An Interesting Graphic Related to your Topic

Your Task Expectations This assignment is the culminating activity for the Substance Use and Abuse unit in the PPL101 Healthy Active Living course. Your task is to choose one specific drug to research and present to the class. You may work in groups of 2-3. There are 3 main components to this assignment: The Research The Slide Show The Presentation The following expectations will be assessed throughout this unit: HL3.01: Identify facts and myths related to the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs HL3.02: Explain the short- and long-term effects of the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs HL3.03: Identify the major factors (e.g. peer pressure) that contribute to the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs HL3.04: Identify the school and community resources involved in the education, prevention and treatment of the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs

The Research Requirements You must use at least 5 different sources to gather your information (e.g. internet sites, books, interview, film) All sources must be referenced and included on Bibliography slide The Slide Show Requirements Your slide show must be creative. It should be colourful, unique, fun and easy to read! Your slide show must have a catchy title that displays creative thinking Your slide show should reflect information that you have researched on your topic Make sure you answer the following questions: What are some of the facts, or true information, related to your drug (1 slide)? What are some of the myths related to your drug (1 slide)? What are the specific short- and long-term effects of using your drug (1 slide)? What are the major factors that contribute to the use of your drug (1 slide)? What school or community resources are available to help with the prevention and treatment the use or abuse of your drug (1 slide)?

The Presentation Requirements You must complete your slide show by: Save your presentation will be saved from the lab onto a memory stick When working in a group, each student must complete a fair share of the work All the members of your group should speak during the presentation Your presentation should be 3-5 minutes Be mindful of your oral presentation skills: making eye contact, good body posture, volume and pace of speech and gestures contribute to the mood you set for your presentation You must demonstrate appropriate listening skills during all presentations
