Vice: The Hermit Kingdom 1984

Do you think it’s possible for a world like this, a total devotion like in the 2-Minute Hate to exist now? Justify why you think the way you do.

Keep these questions in mind. How is the Party able to gain such a hold on its people? Justify your ideas by explaining the effect on the people. What are any similarities you see in 1984 and in this video?

Directions 1. Answer questions 1 and 2. 2. Submit them to turnitin.com by the given due date, time. * Make sure you’re doing your own work, individually.

Goal: Pull relevant quotes, justify in more than 1 sentence. 1. How is the Party able to gain such a hold on its people? Find any 3 examples, pull the essence of the quote, and cite it. Finally, justify your ideas by explaining the effect on the people.

Goal: To see that the ideas in 1984 aren’t isolated to the book or to “back then” or “somewhere else.” 2. What are any similarities you see in 1984 and in this video? 3. North Korea—or Nazi Germany— is obviously a unique situation. Think of one example in our own world of how an entity/industry/event can take hold of us or brainwash us into believing whatever they want us to or get caught up in their philosophy/ideas (by own, I don’t just mean in the US)? Explain and justify.
