11.3 Coordinate Plane Math 1

11.3 Coordinate Plane Vocabulary A Coordinate Plane: formed by 2 number lines that intersect at right angles in a flat plane. Intersection point is zero (origin) on each line. Axes: both of the number lines are called axes. X-axis: horizontal (left-right) line Y-axis: vertical (up-down) line

11.3 Coordinate Plane Vocabulary B Quadrants: the two axes divide the coordinate plane into four corners called quadrants. Ordered Pair: 2 numbers that give the location of a point on a coordinate plane. First number (x) tells how far to move right (positive) or left (negative). The second number (y) tells how far to move up (positive) or down (negative). Coordinates: the numbers in an ordered pair, called x-coordinate and y-coordinate: (x,y)

11.3 Coordinate Plane Example 1 Give the coordinates of each point A through F A = (3,-2) B = (-3,5) C = (-1,-4) D = (0,-3) E = (2,4) F = (4,0)

11.3 Coordinate Plane Example 2a Graph each of these points on a coordinate plane: A = (2,3), B = (5,-3), and C = (-1,-5). First make a graph that will fit all these points. Next, find each location. Then put a dot at each. Last label them A, B, or C.
