SS7cg7 SS7CG7: The students will demonstrate an understanding of national governments in Southern and Eastern Asia

SS7cg7a Compare and contrast the federal republic of The Republic of India, the communist state of The People’s Republic China, and the constitutional monarchy of Japan, distinguishing the form of leadership and the role of the citizen in terms of voting rights and personal freedoms.

SS7cg7a Republic of India: Federal Republic – power is divided among different levels Parliamentary Democracy – The president is the chief of state, but the prime minister holds executive power The government is having conflict with various religious groups

China

ss7cg7a People’s Republic of China: Communist State – Government controls most of the land and businesses Oligarchy – beyond the local level, typically only members of the Chinese communist party (6% of China) can participate in the government

Japan

ss7cg7a State of Japan: Constitutional Monarchy- emperor is the chief of state and his powers are limited by the constitution: Emperor is a “symbolic leader” who represents Japan’s history and culture Parliamentary Democracy – Led by the prime minister
