Class Vision and Mission Vision: Develop knowledge and skills you need to succeed on the ACT in order to get where you want to go. Mission: Each student will increase ACT score by at least 2 points by the end of the semester.

What is the ACT? The ACT is a college readiness assessment that many colleges use for entrance and scholarships. Test Format: Section Time/section Questions/section Time/question English 45 75   Math 60 Reading 35 40 Science

Scoring Max score is a 36 50% correct will get you the following score: English-16 Math-21 Reading-19 Science-20 This will give you a composite of 19!

Average ACT Scores: Delgado: Open Southern: 17-20 Dillard: 17-20 Tulane: 29-32 Grambling: 19-23 UNO: 21-25 LSU: 25 ULL: 21-25 LSU Alexandria: 19-23 Univ. of LA Monroe (ULM): 19-25 LSU Shreveport: 20-25 Louisiana Tech: 21-27 Xavier: 20-22 Loyola: 22-28 McNeese: 20-24 Nicholls St: 22 Northwestern St: 20-24 Southeastern: 20-24 SUNO: 16

Minimum Requirements Math: You must have a 19 English: You must have an 18 Our School Goal is: Graduating Seniors will earn an average of a 19 with 70% of the students earning at least an 18.

Are you college ready? The Benchmarks are scores on the ACT subject-area tests that represent the level of achievement required for students to have a 50% chance of obtaining a B or higher or about a 75% chance of obtaining a C or higher in corresponding credit-bearing first-year college courses. English-18 Math-22 Reading-22 Science-23

TOPS There are 4 levels of TOPS. At each level you get more $$$$$! Minimum ACT scores: TOPS Tech-17 (only applies to junior/community colleges) TOPS Opportunity-20 TOPS Performance-23 TOPS Honors-27

The ACT and Clearinghouse The NCAA Clearinghouse uses a sliding scale between GPA and ACT to determine eligibility. This means the one can help balance out the others. Examples: If you have a 2.5 GPA you must have an average of a 17 on all sections of the ACT If you have a 2.3 GPA you must have an average of a 19 on all sections of the ACT

Is this test pass/fail? Why should I always work to improve my score?

Goal Setting Mission: Each student will increase ACT score by at least 2 points by the end of the semester. Can you grow more than 2 points this semester? Is it realistic to think you will grow 20 points in a year? What are some realistic goals?

Goal Setting What are your score goals by the January test? Fill in the table with your January goals Summarize your overall ACT goal for January. Summarize your ACT goal for graduation. How will achieving this goal allow you to have options after high school?

Creating an Action Plan In order to be prepared for a cumulative test like the ACT you must not only make good grades but ensure that you are truly learning the material and retaining the material. How will your mindset evolve?

Creating an Action Plan Remember the ACT claims that a student working hard in class and completing all their assignments can expect to grow 2 points per year. What will you do in class to ensure you grow your 2 points?

Creating an Action Plan If you set a goal of growing two points or more you will probably need to go above and beyond what is done in class.
