HINT: She going from (7, -8) to (-5, 2) . Name: _____________ 1. Jack wants to visit his sister. To do so, he takes his car and drives from (-8, 5) to (4, -1). One third of the way there he has a flat tire. Find the coordinates that indicate where Jack had a flat tire. 2. Lisa is going home after an unsuccessful shopping spree at the mall. Halfway home she sees an opening sale at a newly built clothing store. What is the location of the store if Lisa’s home is at (-5, 2) and the mall is at (7, -8). 3. A fire breaks out at the Pythagorville Math Museum 3. A fire breaks out at the Pythagorville Math Museum. The fire department is called to the scene. Over the scanner, WABC hears of the fire and dispatches their helicopter to the scene for a live report. How much further must the Pythagorville Fire Department travel compared to the WABC helicopter? NOTE: Both the fire truck and helicopter travel in a straight line to the fire. 3. Find the difference between the two distances traveled. 11.66 – 10 = 1.66 units 1. Calculate the distance between fire dept. and the Museum. 2. Calculate the distance between WABC and the Museum (x1,y1) = (-9,1) (x2,y2) = (1,-5) (x1,y1) = (7,3) (x2,y2) = (1,-5)
