Compound sentence with semicolon and no conjuction The art of styling sentences: Pattern 1

So…What does this all mean? Compound sentence (A sentence with two independent clauses) Semicolon The ; thing No conjunction Words that are used to connect the two independent clauses so they make sense FANBOYS (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So)

Ok…but what does that Actually look like? I walked to school; Jack took the bus Independent Clause 1 Independent Clause 2 The Semicolon The semicolon is able to do the same job as a connective We usually use this type of sentence when both the independent clauses are talking about the same topic (in the example above, it is about how to get to school

A few more examples I like to eat cake; Bob is on a diet I support New South Wales; I am used to losing It will take ninety minutes to get to the Sunshine Coast; it is only sixty to the Gold Coast Try writing your own; you need to write a minimum of three! (See what I did there?!)
