Romeo & Juliet Act I

Vocabulary adversary: an opponent; an enemy boisterous: noisy, energetic, and cheerful; rowdy nuptial: of or relating to marriage or the wedding ceremony

Terms Couplet: two lines of verse (poetry) rhyming and having the same meter Epithet: Adjective expressing a characteristic quality or attribute; sometimes used in place of a name Example: star-crossed lovers = Romeo & Juliet Figurative language: words or expressions used to create a special effect or feeling Foreshadowing: the author uses clues or hints at what may happen later in the story

Terms Iambic meter: A metrical foot consisting of an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable or a short syllable followed by a long syllable, as in delay.
