Legend and Myth Legend – story from the past which was historical, usually about people, places and events from a particular time and place Myth – sacred story from the past which may explain the origin of the universe or life
Tale and Oral Tradition Tale – fiction story showing how people deal with the world. Oral Tradition – stories passed from generation to generation, not usually written down by original tellers
Conflicts: Conflict – struggle between opposite forces Internal Conflict – within the person External Conflict – outside the person
Literary Terms metaphor – comparison of two things without using like or as Simile – comparison of two things using like or as Symbol- item represents something Personification- give a nonhuman object human qualities Plot- sequence of events in story Characterization- qualities of a character
