Connotation What a word suggests beyond its basic meaning. Overtones of meaning Example: Hate would have a negative effect on someone, Like would have a neutral effect on someone, while Love would have a positive effect on someone.
Couplet Two consecutive lines that rhyme in a poem
Fantasy A kind of fiction or drama that pictures creatures or events beyond the boundaries of known reality
Verbal Irony A figure of speech in which what is said is the opposite of what is meant
