A Thematic Exploration Choices Project A Thematic Exploration

What is the Point? The goal of this project and paper is to practice compare and contrast writing and thought processes This will serve as the end of this unit Through these final works, you will prove your ability to focus on the importance of similarities and differences, not just their existence By completing this task, the goal is that you will both see the uniting theme of these six works and understand their overall representation of a shared idea, though in varying ways with varying messages Ultimately, this goal is personal in that much will depend on your interpretation of the choices are made in the works

What are the Requirements? Your presentation must be a minimum of seven (7) slides and a maximum of nine (9) slides Introduction What did I do? A slide per compared idea Conclusion What did I learn? Citation You must compare and contrast at least five (5) elements from the stories This will result in a minimum of seven (7) paragraphs in your paper Each slide of the PowerPoint or Prezi will represent one (1) comparison You must use each story at least once Your presentation must be between 3:30 – 4:30 You will lose one (1) point per second over or under the time allotment You must be in casual dress You must follow proper MLA format

What can I Use? During your presentation, you may use one (1) index card per person to assist you You may write on the front and back of this card You may NOT type on this card This card may contain your main ideas and any points that you may want to cover during your presentation You may NOT bring any notebook or copy paper with you

What Will Help? As with all presentation, please use common sense; this can cover a variety of issues that could cause you trouble: PRACTICE! Making a time limit is not something that you do automatically. Practice with family and friends. Practice in front of the mirror. Just practice! PRACTICE! Voice projection and eye contact are essential, but again, they are not automatic. Practice with others and make sure your voice is heard! Let PP or Prezi help you. Colors that I cannot read, cannot be graded. Use one of the program’s preset designs. These are designed to have non-conflicting color schemes that are easy to read Don’t overload your slides! If the font starts shrinking, you have too much. Remember that you do not want your audience reading instead of listening to you. Instead, only list the main ideas on your slides Proofread. Do not finish your presentation five minutes before class and leave yourself no time to look for errors. This is both embarrassing and preventable. A good idea is to have someone else read your presentation for errors Relax. You are presenting to friends. Don’t let nerves get the best of you!

How will I be Scored? You can receive a total of 16 points Twelve of these points come from content Six of these come from the finesse of your compare and contrast style (your choices) Six of these come from the depth of your comparison (Why?) Four of these points come from presentation and style Readability Design Dress Eye contact Flow
