POLYGONS. What is a Polygon? A closed figure made by joining line segments, where each line segment intersects exactly two others Examples of polygons:
Chapter 6.1 Notes Polygon – is a simple, closed figure made with straight lines. vertex vertex side side Convex – has no indentation Concave – has an indentation.
M4G1 Students will define and identify the characteristics of geometric figures through examination and construction. M4G2 Students will understand fundamental.

Presentation transcript:

Geometry Unit Five Word Bank Diagonal A segment from one vertex to another vertex in a polygon. Isosceles Trapezoid A trapezoid with congruent legs. Median (of a trapezoid) A segment from the midpoint of one leg to the midpoint of the other leg in a trapezoid. Its length is the average of the lengths of the two bases of the trapezoid. Midsegment Another name for the median of a trapezoid.

Geometry Unit Five Word Bank Parallelogram A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides Rectangle A parallelogram with four right angles Rhombus A parallelogram with four congruent sides Square A parallelogram with four right angles and four congruent sides

Geometry Unit Five Word Bank Trapezoid A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides Quadrilateral A four-sided polygon Polygon A closed shape made up of line segments Regular Polygon A polygon that has all congruent sides and all congruent angles.

Geometry Unit Five Word Bank Convex Polygon A polygon where the extension of no sides enters the polygon Concave Polygon A polygon where the extension of one or more sides enters the polygon Pentagon A five-sided polygon Hexagon A six-sided polygon

Geometry Unit Five Word Bank Heptagon (Septagon) A seven-sided polygon 18. Octagon An eight-sided polygon 19. Nonagon A nine-sided polygon Decagon A ten-sided polygon

Geometry Unit Five Word Bank Dodecagon A twelve-sided polygon N-gon An N-sided polygon
