What is it, and how do you do it? Letter of Intent What is it, and how do you do it?

What is your letter of intent? This is the letter you write to the judges to let them know about your topic and the process of the project This letter is FORMAL, which means you should use formal language and formatting

First Add YOUR address in the top left corner: 1231 Saint Street Bunn, NC 27508 (Your Home Mailing Address) May 4, 2011 (Date of your Presentation)

Second Skip two lines, then… Add your SCHOOL address: Judges, Senior Boards My High School Name High School Street Address City, State Zip code

Third Skip two lines, then… Write “Dear Judges” and make sure you put a colon (not a comma) after because the letter is FORMAL

Fourth Begin writing the body of your letter: Briefly describe who you are, what your goals are, and what is unique about you. What was your topic? Why was this topic important to you? How was this a learning stretch? What was your research paper about? What sources did you use? What did you learn about yourself during the paper writing phase or about your topic? What do you plan to create as your product? How does it relate to your paper topic? Who will you choose as your mentor? Why? What do you think you will learn from his or her expertise? What is your plan for succeeding with this project? (What is it you will do to ensure your project is fantastic?) What do you hope to learn by doing this project? You should use new paragraphs when you change topics!

Fifth End your body by thanking the judges for their time and commitment to the students of Bunn High School. Should only be a sentence or two.

Sixth Skip one line, then… Sign your letter with “Sincerely” followed by a comma.

Seventh Skip about three lines, then… Type YOUR FULL NAME

Eighth PRINT YOUR LETTER!!!

Ninth Actually sign your letter between the “Sincerely,” and your typed full name.

SUBMIT YOUR LETTER ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, AUGUST 29TH, 2014!!!! Tenth SUBMIT YOUR LETTER ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, AUGUST 29TH, 2014!!!!
