1: Unemployment in “The Great Depression” During The Great Depression unemployment was high. As you can see in this picture, there are lots of unemployed men vying for jobs. This picture was taken at the “American Legion Employment Bureau” in Los Angeles. This same situation was also happening in Canada. I chose this picture because I believe it is a great depiction of unemployment bureaus during The Great Depression.

2:Farming in Canada During The Great Depression Farming in Canada during The Great Depression was brutal. Prairie farmers had it bad when wheat prices dropped drastically forcing them to move to towns or cities and abandon their farms. Shown in this picture is a deserted house on a dry, barren, and dead field. I chose this picture because it shows you how farms would have looked like in the 1930’s, during The Great Depression.

3: Black Tuesday “Black Tuesday” took place when the price of stocks completely collapsed. Frenzied sellers traded almost 16 million shares, and lost $14 billion on the New York Stock Exchange. In this picture, the streets are filled with people on “Black Tuesday.” I chose this picture because it does a great job showing you what it would have looked like on Black Friday. After this event, Canada plunged deep into 10 years of poverty.

4: Children For Sale During The Great Depression During The Great Depression, some families had to sell or put their children up for adoption because they couldn’t afford them. With food prices climaxing many families couldn’t afford to feed their children. In this picture you can see four children sitting on the steps with a sign advertising them for sale. I chose this picture because it represents what it would be like during The Great Depression. It also showed how malnourished the family was that they really couldn’t afford food.

5: Birth Rates During The Great Depression Birth Rates during The Great Depression dropped drastically. Canada's birthrates dropped from 13.1 births per 1,000 in 1930, to only 9.7 by 1937. This picture is relevant to The Great Depression because woman postponed having children during this event because children cost too much money to feed. In this picture you can see a woman looking very sad and/or stressed. I chose this picture because it looks into the emotions of people living life during The Great Depression. 6: The Homeless Homelessness during The Great Depression was overwhelming because many people lost their jobs and couldn’t afford to pay rent. This picture shows a man sleeping on a bench like you would see during this event. I chose this picture because its what you would see if you were walking in a park during The Great Depression.

7: Bennett Blankets Bennett Blankets were newspapers that covered homeless people during The Great Depression. In this picture, you can see many homeless people laying on newspapers. I picked this photo because it captured the hardships that people in The Great Depression faced.

8: Foreclosure During The Great Depression, farmers couldn't pay back loans for land, and the bank would take back the land and sell it to get back their money. Farmers would be left without land or a home. In this picture, you can see a farm being auctioned off. I chose this because It represents the situation these farmers were put in well.
