Road to Revolution – Right side AKA, how to really, really piss off a bunch of colonists

Create a timeline using the whole side of the paper Add the following information:

1763 Britain beats France in the French and Indian War Signs the Proclamation of 1763, which stops settlement West of the Appalachians

1764 Sugar Act: taxes sugar (since it doesn’t come from Britain) Allows suspected smugglers to be tried without a jury

1765 Stamp Act: requires a stamp to be bought for the purchase of any paper good

1767 Townshend Acts: taxes on a bunch of different goods

1770 Boston Massacre: five colonists killed by Brits after protest turns violent

1773 Tea Act: Allows British East India Company the sole right to sell tea in colonies Boston Tea Party: 90,000 pounds of tea in the harbor!

1774 Intolerable Acts: closed Boston Harbor, places Boston under military rule, forces colonists to allow redcoats into their homes

1775 Fighting at Lexington and Concord: we shoot a bunch of redcoats (200!)

1776 Declaration of Independence signed on July 4th

Wrap Up Questions – Left side Was Britain violating the colonist’s natural rights? Was it necessary for Britain to resort to violence? Why or why not? Overall, were the colonists wrong to seek independence?
