Reading/Writing Reading: (focus will be non-fiction) Oct. 2017 Reading/Writing Reading: (focus will be non-fiction) Please continue to review making connections, and identifying character, setting, problem and solution. 1.7.2 Identify and use text features such as pictures, headings, charts, and captions. *Suggestion: Read 15 minutes at least four nights a week and log time in your Blast off folder. Writing: 1.9.3 Begin each sentence with a capital letter and use ending punctuation 1.8.3 Generate ideas. 1.8.4 Focus on one topic. *Suggestion: Give your child a daily writing prompt to practice generating ideas, writing complete sentences and staying on topic. CALENDAR -Oct. 5th – School Pictures! -Oct. 9th –Teacher work day. No school for students. -Oct. 26th – Field Trip to Brookdale Farm – Forms coming home soon.  -Oct. 27th- Boosterthon Fun Run. More information soon. -Oct. 31st – Fall Center Day Birthdays Logan 10/8 Devlin 10/29 Decorated Dolphin Charlotte Eli Math Please continue working on counting and writing numbers t0 120; starting at any number. 1.1.7 Identify and write the ordinal position 1st through 15th, using an ordered set of objects. 1.4.2 Construct, model, and describe objects in the environment as geometric shapes (triangle, rectangle, square, and circle). 1.6.1 Recognize, describe, extend, and create a wide variety of growing and repeating patterns. *Suggestions: Find different shapes around your house and places you may go. Be sure to describe the shapes including number of sides, vertices (corners) and right angles.*Continue to practice counting by 1s, 5s, 10s to 120 and backwards starting at 30. Have your child start counting at different numbers! *Make patterns using shapes – repeating and growing patterns. *Visit www.ixl.com/math/grade-1 and practice on the geometry questions. * REMINDERS Look for Journey Journals this month! They will be coming home after Columbus Day! We have PE every day. Please wear appropriate shoes.
