Be safe: be seen!

Be safe, be seen! What are the main problems around road safety at night for children? What time of the year/week/day is most dangerous? Which children / users are most at risk? What simple things can help children be safe, be seen?

Learning objectives: to understand the problem of road safety for children, especially at night to understand how lights can help vulnerable ‘wheel’ users to create a ‘user persona’ for whom to design a flashing wheel device

Wheel users

User persona Sarah is 11 years old and a wheelchair user. Her favourite colour is purple, her favourite band is The 1975 and her favourite animals are pandas. She goes to school in Manchester and gets the bus most of the way. She has to push herself, or a friend pushes her, to and from the bus into/out of school and she has to cross a fairly busy road.

User persona Who are you designing for? e.g. name age where they live what wheels they use and why when they travel When are they most at risk? Other information. e.g favourite colour favourite music

Review questions Why is it important to consider users when designing a new device? How do you think creating your ‘user persona’ will help you?

Learning objectives: to understand the problem of road safety for children, especially at night to understand how lights can help, especially for vulnerable ‘wheel’ users to create a ‘user persona’ for whom to design a flashing wheel device
