Mental maths partitioning When doing mental maths one of the easiest ways to do it is partitioning. Say you had a question of 367 + 675 = ? And you really don’t know the answer you could simply say well if 3+6 is 9 then add two 00 to the end of the answer then you have 900 then you would add up 6+7 which is 13 add one 0 for 130 and then add 5+7 together to get 12 then add the total amounts together to get 1042
Number bonds Number bonds are two numbers that add up to get a multiple of ten so here’s one 8462+2648=? All you have to do is add 8000 and 2000 together to make 10,000, 400 and 600 to get a total of 1000, add 60 and 40 to get 100 and add 2 and 8 to get 10 and the multiple of ten that those numbers add up to is ten and the answer is 11,110
Put under the heat (being timed) When you get given timed questions most people just PANIC so just stay calm and figure it out and if you go over the limit don’t worry there's a saying that says ‘learn from your mistakes and trial and error’
