Hurricane Mitch Hurricane Mitch reached level 5 on the hurricane scale. It left the most flooding in Honduras in the 20th century. The President of Honduras estimated that Mitch set back 50 years of economic development. The storm wrecked about 35,000 houses and damaged another 50,000, leaving up to 1.5 million people homeless, or about 20% of the country's population. Mitch directly caused $2.005 billion in damage, with an additional $1.8 billion in indirect costs. Ruined building that were over 350 years old. Washed away the countries crops and there was no food to eat.

HELPING HONDURAS KIDS (HHK) Helping Honduras Kids (HHK) is a non- profit organization that manages a Children's Home (orphanage), caring for 28 children who have been abandoned, abused and/or neglected on the North Coast of HONDURAS, in La Ceiba. We are looking for sponsors who will help support these children.

Their mission and beliefs To improve the level of dignity, education, opportunity and health for orphaned, abandoned, abused, and/or neglected and special needs children, single mothers and families on the north coast of Honduras. They believe in the one true and living God, in Jesus Christ, His Son and Savior, and the Holy Spirit, coupled with our belief that opportunity, education, hope and love are what children need to break the cycle of poverty, inspire and motivate us to help as many children as possible.

Facts Honduras is among the poorest countries in Latin America. While only about 4 percent of the workforce is unemployed, 60 percent of Hondurans live below the poverty line. Everyday 5,760 more children become orphans 250,000 children are adopted every year, but 14,505,000 children grow out of the system Everyday 38,493 orphans grow out Every 2.2 seconds another orphan ages out with no family to belong to and no place to call home Violence has been increasing within the country and affects mostly children and youth. Honduras also has the world’s highest murder rate. There are about 85 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, largely due to gangs and drug trafficking.

How you can help Every month HHK takes the children and they go and eat chicken. YOU CAN HELP BY.... which every Spanish class earns the most money will donate all of that money to HHK and will get to leave school and go to lunch!
