“Instructional designers should consider how words and pictures work together to create meaning for the learner” This in other words this means that the picture reinforces what the words are saying and vise verse.

Types of Graphics on how to swim

Decorative “Their intended purpose is to build motivation by adding either aesthetics or humor to the instructional display.” (Clark, and Lyons )

Representational “Representational visuals are appropriately used to present concrete concepts and factual information related to job tasks such as scenes, forms, equipment, and common work settings.” (Clark, and Lyons )

Relational “Visuals communicate quantitative relationships among lesson content.” (Clark, and Lyons ) Such as what swimming techniques each age group is capable of performing.

Organizational “Organizational graphics are extremely important to help orient learners to the structure and sequence of lesson content. An organizational graphic shows qualitative relationships among the main ideas in a lesson.” (Clark, and Lyons )

Transformational “Is a visual that communicates movement through space or changes over time.” (Clark, and Lyons ) As you can see the child has demonstrated an example of this this the back and front stroke movements.
