centenarian (noun) A person who is at least 100 years old

The centenarian broke many records for high jump and running despite his age. Two centenarians were honored for their continued work raising money to help children in need.

dictator (noun) A person who tells people what to do without giving them choices

The dictator of a country decides all the laws without asking the opinion of the people. “Please don’t act like a dictator of our group,” John requested.

governor (noun) A person who manages the political actions of a state; a state leader

The governor of California, Jerry Brown, makes many decisions that impact California schools. To become a governor, you must be trustworthy, reliable, and hard-working.

inventor (noun) A person who creates something that has never before been created

When you become an inventor, please make a robot that grades papers for Mrs. Cabaj. Leonardo da Vinci is well-known for being an inventor of many advanced contraptions.

juror (noun) A person who is a member of a jury that listens to both sides of a law case in a courtroom to decide if the defendant is guilty or innocent

Mrs. Tatlock was called to become a juror for a court case in downtown Los Angeles. A juror is expected to listen to both sides of a case and make an unbiased decision.

librarian (noun) A person who works in a library

Emblem’s librarian works hard to ensure all students find interesting books. If you would like to become a librarian at a major university then you should study library science.

veterinarian (noun) A person who is a doctor of animal science

To become a veterinarian, one must earn a bachelor’s degree and complete about four years of postgraduate work. If you enjoy helping sick animals, you might choose a career as a veterinarian.
