Writing a Function Rule Lesson 27

Objective HSN-Q.2(2): Define appropriate quantities for the purpose of descriptive modeling.

Example; Write a Function Rule A concert seating plan has specific prices. Reserved seating is $25, and there are 10 rows with 12 seats per row. General seating is $10, and there are 30 rows with 16 seats per row. Reserved seating is sold out. Total revenue from ticket sales will depend on the number of general-seating tickets sold. Write a rule for the situation. Find the maximum revenue. R = Total Revenue n = number of general-seating tickets Revenue is 10 per General and sold out reserved R = 10n + (25 x 10 x 12) R = 10n + 25(120) Maximum Revenue = Sold out R = 10n + 3000 n = 30 x 16 = 480 R = 10(480) + 3000 $7,800 maximum revenue

Example; Write a Function Rule Write a function rule for the area of a triangle whose height is 4 inches more than twice the length of its base. What is the area of the triangle when the length of its base is 16 inches. A = Area of triangle h = height of triangle b = base of triangle A = ½ bh Height is 4 inches more than twice the length of its base h = 4 + 2b Area of the triangle when the length of its base is 16 inches A = ½ b(4 + 2b) A = 2b + 1b2) A = (16)2 + 2(16) A = b2 + 2b A = 256 + 32 A = 288 in.2
