10 Dumbest Ways to Fail High School

Does this really need a bullet? NUMBER 10 Have lots of absences. Does this really need a bullet?

Get behind and stay behind. NUMBER 9 Get behind and stay behind. If you miss instruction, you must make a quick and concerted effort to catch up.

NUMBER 8 Catch up on your sleep during class. Duh!!! The state of Idaho says you have to be in school. You might as well learn something while you are here.

Be a discipline problem. NUMBER 7 Be a discipline problem. Common errors in judgment (emphasize the ridiculous factor in engaging in these behaviors): Fighting - Lose - Lose situation Starting and/or spreading rumors Gossiping - often leads to fights Bullying Violating dress code Messing with someone else's girlfriend/boyfriend Insubordination

Zero tolerance violations. NUMBER 6 Zero tolerance violations. You know the rules. Some examples: Knife on campus Drugs in your possession (prescription or others) Tobacco products in your possession Visible or ringing cell phone

Concentrate more on your social life than anything else. NUMBER 5 Concentrate more on your social life than anything else. Fact: Most adults seldom continue close relationships with friends from high school Yes, you should have a social life. The key is "balance."

NUMBER 4 Blow off homework. Know each teacher's policy. Homework can make a HUGE difference in your grade Develop an organizational system. Losing work you have completed is a crazy way to drop your grade In many cases, homework can be the difference in passing and failing

Blow off major assignments NUMBER 3 Blow off major assignments Hopefully, this is a no-brainer. You can drop your grade from an "A" to and "F" if you do not complete a major assignment. By the way…you are in High School people…bring your materials to class!

NUMBER 2 Live in a dream world ...... "They will not fail me!" Teachers do not fail you; you fail yourself or pass yourself by your academic and time choices If you choose to put your time into a job, a hobby, nights on the internet or hours talking on the phone, these time consuming activities do not provide you with an excuse which will help your grade. The choices you make in how you spend your time each day will decide how successful you are in living up to your potential.

NUMBER 1 Never ask for help. If you do not get over this mistake, life (not just school) will be hard! Ways to get academic help: Ask the teacher during class. If you have a question, other students probably have the same question. Ask the teacher after class. Ask another student after class. (Hint: Pick a smart one!) Take advantage of free tutoring at our school. Form a study group. Research shows that study groups are very effective. (Hint #2: Include someone in the group who understands the subject well.) Ways to get personal help: Talk to your Advisor. Talk to your counselor. There are three things counselors can not keep confidential: (1) If there is any kind of abuse involved, (2) If there is reason to believe you might hurt yourself, (3) If there is reason to believe you might hurt someone else. Talk to an adult you trust. Take a friend with you to talk to an adult you trust.
