Jaime Neely Mary C. Snow Westside Elementary Ms. Katrina Helm Self-Contained BD Classroom / Grades K-2 / 7 Students: 2 Pull-Outs

Project Description Individual Tutoring: One Hour Sessions Tutor two first grade students who struggled in reading. Ms. Helm wanted me to work with the students on sight word identification using the pre-primer Dolch sight word list. Focused on 20 words.

Project Details Pre and post test administered using flash cards. Each one hour session: Administer sight word test Focus on four words each day Complete worksheets on each sight word. Use play doh to create words. Give sight word list to students to take home to study with guardian Create flash cards for students to keep in desk to study

Project Details

How It Went Student Behavior Student Achievement Negatively impacted my ability to complete my tutoring hours Created a barrier between the student and learning Student A behavior very severe: become physical and destructive Student Achievement Was only able to complete two hours of tutoring Would not use my data to assess student growth or learning.

Student Data

Student Data Student A: Student B: March 10: April 14: Down Can Not One My Big Come Blue Red Where Jump Help Here Make Two Play Run Find Three Said

Reflections What They Learned: What I Learned: I feel that Student A benefited and learned some of the content. However, I can’t be sure as to whether it was from me or from help he received at home. What I Learned: Most difficult observation I have ever had Every BD different Smallest incidences would set them off. Would completely break down in a matter of seconds. Breakdowns varied in level of aggressiveness and verbal responses Short attention spans and all benefited from lessons only lasting 10-15 minutes with hands-on materials used. Students only responded to Ms. Helms-created problem because she was frequently out of classroom. She was extremely stern, zero tolerance policy Changed my mind about medicating children
