The Unknown Artist No one paid much attention to the new girl, Erin The Unknown Artist No one paid much attention to the new girl, Erin. She didn’t talk much and she kept to herself at lunch. Then one morning a cartoon of Ms. Gerber’s sixth-grade class showed up on the chalkboard. The artist had drawn each student and had somehow caught each one’s personality. Who had done the drawing? Later that day, Erin was called to the front of the class to read her report. On the way up, some papers fell out of her folder. When Ms. Gerber saw them, she laughed. “Well, I guess we know who our artist is!” There in Erin’s hand were sketches of the class hard at work. “Maybe you can help do sets for the class play,” Juan said to her. Erin was excited and suddenly felt more at ease. She began sharing her love for drawing and a collection of her sketches with the class.

Do Now What event directly led Juan to ask Erin to create the sets for the play? Erin had trouble making friends at school. Erin’s creative artwork was revealed to the class. Erin drew cartoons on the chalkboard. Ms. Gerber could not find anyone else to create the sets for the play.

Learning Target I can demonstrate proficiency in analyzing text for figurative language, point of view, development of theme and plot. Standard: RL6.1, RL6.2, RL6.4, RL6.6

Mid-Unit Assessment You will complete the Mid-Unit Assessment in your Student journal on pages 11-13. These graphic organizers are just like the other three that we previously completed. Once you are done, you will answer multiple choice questions based on the same section of text. In other words, your initial work should prepare you to answer the multiple choice questions.

Closure Exit Ticket: Is it any easier for Moon Shadow to fit in during the events in Chapter 3 than it is in Chapter 2? Why? Use textual evidence to support your answer.
