How do external factors change an organism's genes to affect their offspring? Lecture 1: During meiosis the chromatids move apart from each other during segregation. The chromatids have different forms of genes called alleles. The alleles have a certain genotype that will express a certain trait or phenotype. These combination can be predicted with probability via Punnette squares. Terms of Use: Segregation, Allele, Chromatids, Punnette Square, Probability, Genotype, Phenotype

Paired chromosomes exchange material Makes specific proteins Concept Map Meiosis The replication of Chromosomes Errors can occur Crossing-over Gene Paired chromosomes exchange material Makes specific proteins

Drawing and Labels Punnette Squares can be used to calculate the probability of the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring.

Primary Investigation Write the question and answer in a complete sentences Q1. How do alleles move during segregation? A1. Q2. How do genotypes express the characteristics or phenotypes? A2. Q3. How are the genotypes and phenotypes predicted in offspring? A3.

Exit Slip Write the question and answer in a complete sentence How are new genetic combinations made through segregation in meiosis? Claim (How): Evidence (Why): Example (What):
