World War One What do we know already? When did it happen? Who was involved? What were some of the big battles? What caused? Why was it a world war? List as many questions as you want answering about world war one.

Who was allied to whom? Triple Entente Triple Alliance

Remember, some of these alliances changed over the course of the war, as did the names of the two sides. We will look at this when we study the Treaty of Versailles

Short term causes The most obvious one is the “spark” that caused the fire. DO NOT WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING, write down what is important. We can work it out together.

Work sheets 1 and 2 Complete the word fill Read through the different cause cards. Categorise them in to ‘Militarism’, ‘Alliance’, ‘Imperialism’ and ‘Nationalism’ causes. You can put a card in more than one category, as long as you can justify your decision.

What’s coming up next? You will each be given a delegation at the Treaty of Versailles discussions. The treaty has not been assigned yet and needs to be discussed and debated. The discussion will be held under Model UN rules. You will have to research about that country and put forward a case for what is the best possible outcome for all parties involved to end World War One. Next lesson you will assigned a country in groups and you will have to go away and research that countries perspective. The best delegation will be the one that is most realisitic but the best at presenting, negotiating and discussing both in public and in private. \ The conference will take place over three lessons. The best delegation will receive 10 house points for each student.
