Shoot Around Set personals down, you should only have your notebook and a pencil out on your desk Grab a piece of loose leaf paper up at the front and begin shoot around Tell me a goal you want to accomplish in this class, this semester, and this school year. How can I help you achieve those?

Locard’s Exchange Principle 8/26/14

Agenda Guided Walkthrough – History and Vocab Visual Walkthrough – Pre-lab for Locard (HW) Scrimmage/Practice – Deductive Reasoning Lab

Guide to Taking Notes!! If the text is in BOLD or underline then that needs to be written down in the notebook You are free to translate anything else down in your notebook as well. Just know it may be hard to copy everything down with the time permitted Also, please remember my PowerPoints will be on my website and you will have access to them later!

Who was Edmond Locard? Director of the very first crime lab His techniques were able to determine where soldiers died during World War I by examining their stains “Physical evidence cannot be wrong, it cannot perjure itself, it cannot be wholly absent. Only human failure to find it, study and understand it, can diminish its value”

Vocab Locard’s Exchange Principle – when two items come into contact, there will always be an exchange. This is the basis of trace evidence Trace Evidence – the material found at a crime scene or accident scene in small but measurable amounts

Turn and Talk Form a list of different types of trace evidence that forensic scientist can find at a crime scene.

Locard’s Pre-Lab Tomorrow’s lab is to analyze what fibers we can pull off of our t-shirts. Therefore, you can use the shirt you are wearing now or you can change shirts after school. Which ever choice you make. You must document ALL locations where you go throughout the day with that shirt on At the end of the day, place the shirt in a bag or Ziploc and bring it back into school tomorrow along with your sheet of documented locations

Deductive Reasoning Lab You guys will work on this deductive reasoning activity in groups. Each group of four will only receive one packet Remember to delegate roles so everyone is involved Turn in data tables 1 & 2, and the four post-lab questions before you leave today to receive credit for the activity Make sure all names are on the document

Final Stretch 1. If any desks are moved around, please move them back to their appropriate place 2. Flip your shoot-around over and start the exit ticket 1. Define Locard’s Exchange Principle 2. Name 3 examples of Trace Evidence 3. Name one thing you enjoyed about this lesson 4. Name one thing you want improved.
